Sir John A. Dawkmanald

No sooner do I enter a feeble plea for recognition of Sir John A.'s birthday (it was Jan. 11; my plea was Jan. 9) than a new poll reveals that only 58 per cent of Canadians can name Canada's first prime minister. One hopes at least three quarters can say what a birthday is and give at least a vague idea of what this "Canada" might be. If you aspire to do a little better, I was contacted by the General Editor of the online John A. Macdonald portal which looks good to me and has all sorts of stuff that goes well beyond the apparently now obscure fact that he was gosh look our first prime minister.
