After American rebels captured Montreal on Nov. 13, 1775 and besieged Quebec City in early December, only Guy Carleton’s heroic defence, complete with theatrical burning of the surrender demand, kept Richard Montgomery and Benedict Arnold’s forces from bringing all of the future Canada into the American Republic. Still outwitted by hackers? Bananas!

Hackers turning the City of Ottawa website into a dancing banana is a tale of dumb and dumber. Probably I should kiss my own site goodbye before ridiculing pimply hackers and their victims but it’s time to put my inky foot down and hope I miss the cybernetic peel because this whole story is ridiculous. Where do we draw the line of consent?

What if it had been consensual? The Jian Ghomeshi saga is now about sexual assault. He is of course entitled to the presumption of innocence especially given the seriousness of the allegations. But remember, he initially claimed the CBC fired him for conduct “unbecoming a prominent host” which raises the question, despite subsequent developments, whether there is voluntary sexual conduct that is disgraceful.
